Nicklaus, Jack - 1978 Open Championship Gemstone Artwork

This pictorial artwork is created by skillfully arranging natural gemstones both precious and semi-precious, glued on every square inch of the glass, following a special line drawing of the artist. Extra care is taken in selecting the gemstones because sizes and color combinations are very important in expressing the desires of the artist. Gemstones used in this unique artwork include: Amethyst, Lapis Lazuri, Calcite, Black Spinel, Chalcedony, Blue Sapphire, and Carnelian.

Framed Dimensions: 25" x 29.5"

Jack Nicklaus won the 1978 Open Championship at St Andrews to become the only player to have won each major championship three times. This record has since been tied by Tiger Woods. Nicklaus and Woods are the only two players to win three "Career Grand Slams".

Nicklaus had won 14 major titles by the time he arrived in St Andrews in 1978, but none since 1975. Nicklaus considered his performance in the 1978 Open as the finest four days of tee-to-green golf he had ever produced, and was most proud that the win came at St. Andrews, one of his favorite places to play golf.
