Old Tom & Young Tom Morris Medal
This medallion was produced by Alexander Kirkwood & Son of Edinburgh, and is an impressive work of art. In 1981 every British Open contestant was given one of these as a memento of their experience. This particular medallion was not given at the British Open as the back of it has been left unengraved.
This medallion is 4" in diameter and 3/8" thick and is pewter with a sterling silver overlay and is believed to be the largest medal ever struck in Scotland. It weighs approximately 17 ounces, so it is surprisingly heavy. As mentioned, the back is blank, so it can still be engraved and used as an award or gift. The green leather case is beautifully made and has its own stand built in the back, to display the medal within the case. Condition is like new.
