Archer, George - Autographed Trading Card

Born: October 1, 1939 in San Francisco, CA.
Died: Sept. 25, 2005
Card Size: 2 1/2" x 3 1/2"

In 1969, George Archer won the Masters for the only major championship of his career. After three rounds Billy Casper had the lead, but with bogeys on five of the first ten holes, Charles Coody took the lead with an eagle on the par-five 13th. Coody finished poorly with bogeys on the final three holes. Archer was able to capitalize despite having his own problems on the par-five 15th hole. Archer hit his second shot into the pond in front of the 15th, but managed to sink a 10-foot par saving putt and went on to win by 1-stroke over Casper, George Knudson and Tom Weiskopf.

George Archer had a fine career on the PGA Tour, winning a total of 12 titles. He also went on to win 19 times on the Champions Tour and is the only player on that tour to win in each of its first three decades.
