Ross, Donald - Original Sketch

Donald James Ross (1872-1948) was a legendary golf course designer. He was born in Dornoch, Scotland, but became a citizen of and spent most of his adult life in the United States. He was involved in designing or redesigning around 400 courses from 1900–1948, laying the foundation for America's golf industry.

Ross's most famous designs are Pinehurst No. 2, Aronimink Golf Club, East Lake Golf Club, Seminole Golf Club, Oak Hill, Memphis Country Club, Inverness Club and Oakland Hills.

In the 1930s Donald Ross was hired to renovate Camden Country Club's home course, then known as Kirkwood Links. Presented here is an original sketch in Ross' hand on his architectural forms for Hole #6.
