Blair, John - Original St Andrews Watercolor

A John Blair (1850-1934) original watercolor "St Andrews" presents a view from the edge of the links with the R&A Clubhouse and course in the distance. The watercolor is signed & inscribed by Blair.

John Blair was born at Hutton, near Berwick upon Tweed. Blair was an Edinburgh artist who worked largely in watercolor, producing topographical views of towns and villages on the east coast, including Edinburgh and the Borders.

Blair's topographical watercolors were at their most popular in the mid-1870's. The color became stronger in his later work, reminiscent of Hamilton Glass.

Blair exhibited regularly from 1870 until 1920, including 83 works at the Royal Scottish Academy.
