Coody, Charles - Autographed Photo
Born: July 13, 1937 in Stamford, TX.
In 1971 Charles Coody won The Masters, his only major title. This tournament would evolve into a three man race between Nicklaus, Johnny Miller and Charles Coody. Nicklaus, the heavy favorite, led after 54 holes. Miller had started slowly, shooting 72-73 but heated up on the weekend shooting a pair of 68s. Coody fired a 66 on Thursday and never lost sight of the leaders. Nicklaus shot 72 on Sunday and uncharacteristically lost his lead. With four holes to play, Coody was 2-strokes behind Miller. Two Miller bogeys and two Coody birdies gave Charles Coody the green jacket and a 2-stroke victory over Miller and Nicklaus.
The 1971 Masters would be the last for Bobby Jones. In December of 1971, the founder of Augusta National and The Masters passed away.
