This view, which was selected to highlight architect George Thomas' ingenuity and artistic mastery of bunker design, depicts the 168 yard par 3 that has served as a round "maker or breaker" for countless players since the course opened in 1927. The tee shot is usually played into a prevailing ocean breeze that can make an afternoon round vastly different from a morning one. Hidden from view is a back bunker that completes the encirclement of the very small and sloped putting surface. The long shadows indicate the bunker depth and the difficulty in identifying the exact pin placement from the tee.
