This hand crafted, one-of-a-kind stained glass window was commissioned to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Bobby Jones winning the Grand Slam in 1930. The design of this piece was inspired by the original bookplate Bobby Jones used in his personal library.
The window is approximately 60” tall and 38” wide and comes with a 4” walnut stained frame and is mounted to a free standing light box. Overall size when mounted to the light box is approximately 82” tall, 42” wide, and 9” deep.
Stained glass can be displayed in several ways; it can be mounted on a window and illuminated by natural light, mounted to a finished free standing light box, or the light box can be recessed into a wall, giving the impression of an actual window.
Stained Glass artist Laura Mentor created this unique artwork using traditional techniques rarely used today because of their time-intensive nature. In this process, every section is painted by hand on colored glass; most of which is hand blown. Layer upon layer of paint is painstakingly applied and kiln fired between each layer. These traditional stained glass paints contain ground glass which actually becomes part of the finished glass when fired. This process ensures that the finished piece will never fade or change color in any way.
Many of the pieces go through the painting and firing process as many as ten times before assembly into the finished work. Using these time-honored techniques, Ms. Mentor creates images that radiate color and light to a degree unmatched by any other medium. Laura Mentor has been using these techniques to create custom stained glass windows for over ten years and has clients throughout the United States.
