About Jules Alexander:
Jules Alexander's interest in golf began in 1956, when he became fascinated by the game's technique and studied it enthusiastically. When he learned the 1959 U.S. Open would be played at Winged Foot Golf Club near his home, Jules jumped at the opportunity to cover the Open. During one of the practice rounds, Alexander was irresistibly drawn to Ben Hogan. He had recently read Hogan's books; "Power Golf" and "The Modern Fundamentals of Golf" and was keenly aware of Hogan's great skills and rituals - with hopes that studying Hogan would help his own game.

While at Winged Foot, Jules photographed only Hogan. "I stayed out of his way," Alexander recalled. "Hogan knew I was there, but he didn't seem to mind." Ben Hogan didn't win the 1959 U.S. Open (Billy Casper did), but Alexander's black & white photographs of Hogan that week - would become legendary. Many of these photos have been the centerpiece of an advertising campaign by the Ben Hogan Company, beginning in 1986.

In 1994, the coffee-table sized book "The Hogan Mystique" showcased 70 of Alexander's finest black & white photos of Hogan, most from the '59 Open. "The Hogan Mystique" has received worldwide acclaim, and furthered Alexander's stature as a premier photographer. (Mr. Hogan, the subject of this unique collection, called "The Hogan Mystique" ... "a most beautiful book, one of the finest I have seen.") Although Jules only met Ben Hogan a few times before he passed away, he was to learn that Ben's wife Valerie said, "Jules was one of my husband's favorite people. He really admired Jules as a photographer, but even more as a gentleman."

Jules Alexander’s work can also be seen on permanent display at the World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine, Florida, and in the Ben Hogan Room at the USGA Museum in Far Hills, New Jersey. Many of his golf course photographs beautify the walls of some of the finest golf clubs in the world.
