With 11 major championships to his credit, Walter Hagen is one of golf’s all-time great players. His flamboyant lifestyle is well known, but his tremendous accomplishments as a player are sometimes under appreciated.

As Hagen often said, “I never wanted to be a millionaire, I just wanted to live like one” and that he did. Hagen had a reputation for gamesmanship and a penchant for hitting erratic shots followed by superhuman recovery shots; both unnerving to his opponents as they signaled that the “Haig” was on his game. Ultimately, Hagen was respected if not revered by fellow competitors for his quality of play and his legacy in the game.
