A rare early smooth patent golf ball circa 1860's.
With a large turned wooden sphere forming its center, the thickness of the gutta material is a remarkable ¼ of an inch, the ball in overall good condition still retaining the piece that has come loose.
Provenance:This golf ball was unearthed during drainage excavations in the 1960s at the Scotscraig Golf Club, Scotland, founded in 1817, two years after the Battle of Waterloo! |
