The Art of Ron Tunsion
 |
 |
One of America's most acclaimed sculptors is turning his talents
to golf. Ron Tunison - who made his reputation on the battlefields
of Gettysburg - has signed an exclusive agreement with Golf Links
to the Past to create original works capturing the greatest players,
designers and moments of golf history. Tunison is currently producing
the Master Designer Series, celebrating the best golf course architects
of the 20th Century. He is launching the series with two designers,
A.W. Tillinghast and Dr. Alister Mackenzie. "I like to work with
interesting characters, and both of these gentlemen had a great
look and rich personas," Tunison said.
To honor Tillinghast and Mackenzie's profound contributions to
golf, Ron Tunison is sculpting bronzes for permanent display at
CordeValle, a world-class private golf club near San Jose, California.
CordeValle's director of golf, Joe Root, commissioned the sculptures
and oversees the project. "We are very pleased to be working with
Mr. Tunison. His ability to make a figure come alive is extraordinary."
The New York-based sculptor is best known for his work involving
the Civil War. Three of his pieces are prominently featured at
Gettysburg, including The General Samuel W. Crawford Monument,
the Friend-to-Friend Masonic Memorial, Irish Brigade Monument
and The Delaware State Monument. Tunison is known as a storyteller
with a rare ability to capture emotion in the faces and body language
of his figures. His works have been hailed for their historical
authenticity and meticulous attention to detail. |
